Shear Wall Strengthening in a High-Rise Building
Shear Wall Strengthening in a High-Rise Building
During a site inspection, severe deterioration was found in the shear wall of a high-rise building’s basement level (-4). Issues included honeycombing, concrete segregation, sludge accumulation, and exposed corroded reinforcement. Left unaddressed, these defects could have threatened the stability and durability of the entire structure, necessitating urgent strengthening measures.
Restoring Stability and Durability
Our strategy focused on restoring the strength and extending the lifespan of the affected wall:
- Deteriorated concrete was chipped away to expose sound substrate.
- Corroded reinforcement was cleaned and coated with a zinc-rich primer to protect against further corrosion.
- The cavities were filled with high-strength, multi-component epoxy resin grout to re-establish structural integrity.
- The shear wall was subsequently treated with concrete jacketing to enhance strength and durability.
Outcome: Enhanced Strength and Safety
The strengthening was completed within the scheduled timeline. The shear wall’s structural integrity was fully restored, addressing both safety concerns and long-term durability.
This project highlights our expertise as building repair contractors in areas of targeted structural repairs, demonstrating that even complex deficiencies can be effectively resolved with advanced techniques and precision execution.
